สิ่งที่แตกต่างอย่างเห็นได้ชัดคือ แถบที่ม่วงอมเขียวอมเทา บริเวณโคนหางจนถึงกลางหลังของ Similis นั่นคือสิ่งที่ Polystictus ไม่มีครับ   นอกจากนี้ลำตัวของ Similis ยังเล็กและเพรียวกว่าด้วยเด้อ

Dear Iodineman,

Good question.  There are several species that look quite similar so it is hard to see the difference when only looking at pictures, while if you see the two next to each other the differences are more clear.

The two species come from different locations, have slightly different body shape, and the coloring is noticeably different.

Similis are found in the Rio Madeira Basin, Brazil and have the dark smudge near the tail, which is why it is known as the smudge tail Cory. It also has a longer (and lower) body shape and the coloring is more green/brown.

   Finally I’ve noticed that Similis produce slightly smaller eggs and fry than Polystictus, but are more hardy than Polystictus fry.

   Polystictus come the Paraguay river basin in Brazil and have a shorter and taller body shape and the coloring has more of Red/Pink coloring.

Hi Micki,

I did a Google translate on your inquiry and I think I understand what you are asking.  I have a couple of suggestions.

For an 18 inch tank you could keep 8-10 medium sized Cory's depending on what filter you use and how often you do water changes.  Having a stronger water current helps to keep the fish active.  If you want the dwarf Cory's you can add more.

The one thing I did notice though was your choice of gravel.  Corydoras have sensitive barbels that can be easily damaged on shark edges, so it is best to use either sand or small (Rounded) gravel.  The stones you have selected are sharp angular gravel which will be a problem.

Also Cory's like medium to lower pH water with low hardness.  The white gravel pieces you've selected will probably keep the pH and hardness high and should be removed.  I couldn't see the other (furniture) in the tank so I can't comment on those.  If you use sand, wood and live plants for your tanks you will be safe for most South American fish species.

Here are a few rough pictures of my Columbian Evelynae.  This species still hasn't been described so this is actually a trade name that has been given it.  There are also several good pictures of this species  shown on http://www.nettaigyo.com/corydoras/encyc/corydoras/evelynae-columbia.html

The color pattern is highly variable so each fish is different.

Below are a few pictures of adult Corydoras Delphax and a two month old juvenile.  I've been fortunate to have them spawn a couple times, which is the first recorded spawning of Delphax EVER.  So these are the first F1 Delphax juveniles !!

And you see it here first.

My corydoras imitator spawned and started to hatch today. 

This is the first time I've been able to get Imitator to spawn.  Sorry for the poor picture of the newly hatched fry, but that was the best I could get in all the excitement.

Only found 17 eggs but hopefully it will be start of something good !!
